Our visits to restaurants in London are fairly random. Occasionally we'll go up specifically to visit a well-reviewed restaurant (like Nahm for my 29th birthday), but more frequently we just go into somewhere near whichever tube station we emerge from. Daquise - this is the oldest Polish restaurant in London, open in the same location since the early 1940s. It serves authentic Polish home cooking, which was just what Lindell, Jesssica and I needed after a long day of talking platyhelminth biology at the Natural History Museum. A fair number of vegetarian possibilities, including a clear barscht (beetroot soup) with mushroom ravioli, vegetable stroganoff, stuffed cabbage leaves, and pierogi. A vegetarian platter for about £8 is a good deal if you can't choose. 20 Thurloe St, South Kensington SW7 2LT. 0207 589 6117. Open 7 days a week, 11.30 am - 11 pm. (August 2002) |
